WARSAW, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny hinted that he can extend his contract with FC Barcelona as he feels really happy in the team.

The 34-year-old returned from retirement to sign for FC Barcelona in October 2024 after it turned out to be clear for the club that Marc-Andre ter Stegen was ruled out due to a long-term knee injury. Szczesny's contract expires in June 2025. However, the Pole suggested that he is ready to extend his career.

"If you asked me at the start of the season, I'd say I'll be leaving Barca in June. But I love the time I've spent here. My family is happy, my son loves his school, my wife loves being here. I'm open to everything," Szczesny told Spanish media on Tuesday.

"At first I thought I would live in Marbella after the season, but I love my time here in FC Barcelona. There is no need to rush into decisions. The only thing I can definitely reject is going to another club", the player added.

The goalkeeper emphasized that Ter Stegen helped him in his first weeks in the Catalan club.

"Marc has been very helpful from the start. He even texted me before I arrived in Barcelona. I'm very happy that his rehabilitation is going well because it's not nice when a teammate is out. I hope he will be back and ready to help the team as soon as possible," the Pole concluded.

On Wednesday evening, FC Barcelona will play against Benfica on away in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. In the La Liga the players coached by Hansi Flick sit in the top of the table with one point more than second-placed Atletico. Enditem
