GAZA, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Hamas on Tuesday urged the ongoing emergency Arab summit held in Egypt to "thwart" the Gaza displacement plan.
In a press statement, Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha emphasized the need for unified efforts to support the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli occupation.
He said, "The priority for any Arab initiative must be to stop Israeli aggression, strengthen Palestinian steadfastness, and support their resistance against the occupation."
He reiterated the movement's rejection of any plans that could lead to the displacement of Palestinians from their land.
Taha also underscored the importance of Palestinian unity in managing the situation within Gaza, ensuring that decisions serve the interests of the Palestinian people under the current circumstances.
He noted that Hamas agreed to Egypt's earlier proposal to form a "community support committee" out of a conviction that a Palestinian framework is needed to help ease the suffering of Gaza's residents.
He described the initiative as an important step amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Taha added that Palestinians expect tangible outcomes from the ongoing Arab summit that align with the historic responsibility of Arab leaders.
He urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for implementing the ceasefire agreement signed on Jan. 15, stressing the need to resist any efforts aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause. Enditem
