NEW DELHI, March 5 (Xinhua) -- At least three paramilitary troopers belonging to India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were wounded Wednesday after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police said.
The explosion took place in the Chaibasa area of West Singbhum district, about 158 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Jharkhand.
"This morning, a blast took place at Baliwa village in Saranda forests falling under Manoharpur police station limits of Chaibasa, wounding three CRPF personnel," a police official said, adding the CRPF personnel were out in the area on a search operation when the explosion happened.
According to police, the wounded personnel were immediately removed to the nearest hospital and later airlifted for specialized treatment.
Police suspect the involvement of Naxals in the attack.
Currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India.
The insurgency reportedly has claimed hundreds of lives besides rendering thousands of inhabitants homeless. Enditem
