PRAGUE, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Czech government announced on Wednesday its decision to gradually increase defense spending to 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.

Under the approved plan, defense spending will rise to 2.2 percent of GDP in 2026, followed by annual increases of 0.2 percent until reaching the 3 percent target by 2030, Defense Minister Jana Cernochova said on social media platform X.

"We must take greater responsibility for our own security, no one else will do it for us. We need to invest more in our defense, and we must do so responsibly, efficiently, and rationally," she added.

According to the Defense Ministry, the Czech Republic met its commitment to spend 2 percent of GDP on defense in line with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) requirement last year. Enditem
