ATHENS, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Greece's main opposition party submitted a censure motion against the government on Wednesday, backed by 85 lawmakers.

The Panhellenic Socialist Movement-Movement for Change accused the ruling conservatives of mishandling safety failures that led to the country's worst train tragedy in February 2023 and attempting to cover up political responsibility.

The vote is set for Friday, but the ruling New Democracy party holds a strong parliamentary majority. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis rejected the allegations, accusing opponents of exploiting the tragedy for political gain.

On February 28, 2023, a passenger train collided with a freight train in Tempi, central Greece, killing 57 people. Enditem
