PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The counter-narcotics police in the drive against illicit drugs have detained a drug trafficker and discovered 22 kg of hashish from his possession in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, a senior police officer said Thursday.

The alleged drug smuggler was attempting to smuggle the contraband to Kabul on Wednesday, and the police acting on a tip-off foiled the attempt on the road in the Doshi district, provincial director for counter-narcotics police Mullah Mohammad Nabi Kamran said.

Similarly, during an operation in the eastern Nangarhar province, police found 33 kg crystals, an object used in manufacturing heroin, from a car recently and detained two individuals, the police said. Enditem
