KAMPALA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Kenya's Junior Starlets, Mildred Cheche, has warned that they are in Uganda to win the match before the return leg of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifier.
Uganda will host Kenya in the first leg of the second round in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifier on March 8th at the Hamz Stadium in Kampala, the country's capital.
"We know that playing away from home is not always easy, but we have done our homework and are here to win," said Cheche as her team arrived in Uganda on Thursday.
Cheche will be eyeing a second consecutive appearance at the big stage after guiding the Junior Starlets at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2024 in the Dominican Republic.
"The girls are feeling motivated and are ready for the match. We've prepared well, we are in high spirits, and the team is ready," said Cheche.
The Kenyan squad is a mix of fresh talents and players who featured in the previous qualification campaign.
To reach the second round Uganda eliminated Namibia 18-1 on aggregate, while Kenya qualified directly into round 2 because they played at the last FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
The winner on aggregate in the two legged round will advance to the third round to face the winner between Cameroon and Ethiopia. The 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will take place in Morocco. Africa will be represented by five teams at the tournament. Enditem
