MANILA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The performance of manufacturing production in the Philippines increased in January, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.
Based on the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries, the PSA said the year-on-year value of production index (VaPI) and the volume of production index (VoPI) rose by 4 percent and 3.2 percent in January, respectively.
The PSA said the VaPI increased at an annual rate of 4 percent in January from a yearly increase of 0.4 percent in December 2024.
In January 2024, the VaPI for manufacturing recorded an annual decrease of 1.4 percent.
The PSA attributed the acceleration in the annual rate of VaPI for manufacturing in January 2025 to the annual increase in the manufacture of food products at 9.3 percent during the month from an annual increase of 1.4 percent in the previous month.
Meanwhile, the VoPI for the manufacturing section registered a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent in January from its annual increment of 0.4 percent in December 2024.
In January 2024, the VoPI for manufacturing recorded an annual decrease of 0.3 percent.
According to the agency, the acceleration in the year-on-year growth rate of VoPI for manufacturing in January 2025 was primarily driven by the manufacture of food products, the manufacture of basic metals, and the manufacture of machinery and equipment. Enditem
