WARSAW, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Friday plans to introduce military training for every adult man, with the goal of having a fully developed model by the end of the year.

Tusk told the parliament that the government is actively developing a system to ensure military readiness for a potential conflict.

He reiterated Poland's goal of maintaining a 500,000-strong army, including reservists.

The prime minister confirmed that the government is considering different training models, including the Swiss model, in which participation is not mandatory but strongly encouraged through incentives.

"We will have a structured plan ready in the coming weeks," he said.

Although the program is primarily focused on men, Tusk acknowledged the role of women in defense. "This initiative will be open to both men and women, but war is still, to a large extent, the domain of men," he noted. Enditem
