BUCHAREST, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Romania will launch two major research and development projects worth nearly 180 million euros (195 million U.S. dollars) in nuclear power and artificial intelligence (AI), the Ministry of Investment and European Projects announced on Friday.

Minister Marcel Bolos said these investments will enhance Romania's role in European research, drive technological innovation, and strengthen energy security and digital transformation.

The 4ALFRED project, valued at over 112 million euros, aims to develop infrastructure for lead-cooled fast neutron reactors, supporting energy security and carbon reduction. It is being implemented in collaboration with Technologies for Nuclear Energy State-Owned Company (RATEN) and private partners.

The Romanian Artificial Intelligence Hub (HRIA), a 67 million-euro initiative, will serve as a national AI research and development center. Led by the Bucharest Polytechnic University, it brings together six universities and eight private companies. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollar) Enditem
