JERUSALEM, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said its aircraft conducted an airstrike Sunday on militants attempting to plant an explosive device in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to a statement from the military, these militants were "identified operating in proximity to Israeli troops and attempting to plant an explosive device in the ground in northern Gaza."

Meanwhile, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that a citizen was killed and several others injured early on Sunday by Israeli fire in the east of Gaza City.

It marked the latest Israeli strike on Gaza, where tensions persist as negotiations on the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas remain stalled.

According to Gaza's health authorities, the Palestinian death toll since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza in October 2023 has risen to 48,453, with an additional 111,860 people injured. Enditem
