ISLAMABAD, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security personnel killed three terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Tank district of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, said the military.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan army, said on Saturday evening that the operation was launched following reports of terrorists' presence in the area.

Security forces effectively engaged the terrorists at their location, resulting in the elimination of all three, said the ISPR, adding that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, who were actively involved in numerous attacks against security forces and civilians.

The military added that a clearance operation is in process to clear the area of any remaining threats.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the security forces for their successful operation in separate statements, saying that efforts against terrorism would continue until the menace is completely wiped out from the country. Enditem
