TALUQAN, Afghanistan, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Police have taken into custody two persons on charge of killing two children in northern Afghanistan's Takhar and the neighboring Kunduz province, police said Monday.

In the first incident, a man who murdered an 11-year-old girl in the Bangi district of Takhar province a couple of days ago has been arrested, provincial police spokesman Qari Zabihullah Hakimi said.

The alleged killer, according to the official, has been handed over to concerned bodies for further investigation.

In an identical crime, police have apprehended an individual in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province on the charge of murdering a four-year-old kid, provincial police spokesman Jumadin Khaksar said.

The officials did not provide more details.

Although the rate of crimes has been drastically reduced over the past more than three years in the war-torn and impoverished Afghanistan, criminal elements still attempt to kidnap members of well-off families for ransom in parts of the post-war Afghanistan. Enditem
