YANGON, March 11 (Xinhua) -- An event to mark World Consumer Rights Day was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on Monday, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn said this year's theme for World Consumer Rights Day, which falls on March 15, is "A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles."

As a member of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection, the government is collaborating with ASEAN countries to implement the ASEAN Strategic Action Plan for Consumer Protection 2016-2025. It is also carrying out educational programs, market surveillance, and trademark supervision, the report added.

He then urged attendees to work together to ensure a safe, healthy, and supportive community for consumers to achieve sustainable lifestyles, the report said.

Winners of the article and cartoon competitions marking World Consumer Rights Day were also awarded during the event, it said.

Another event to mark World Consumer Rights Day was also held in Yangon on Monday, and was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein. Enditem
