ISLAMABAD, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers in the first eight months of the 2024-25 fiscal year witnessed an increase of 32.60 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year, officials from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Tuesday.
Pakistan received remittance inflows amounting to 24 billion U.S. dollars in July-February of FY25 compared to 18.1 billion dollars received during the same period of last fiscal year, the SBP officials told Xinhua.
On a month-on-month basis, the inflow of overseas workers' remittances into Pakistan stood at 3.1 billion dollars in February 2025, 3.33 percent up as compared to 3 billion dollars in January 2025, said the officials.
The remittances mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Britain, and the United States during the period.
Economic experts in the country believe that strong remittance inflows will not only ease pressure on the external account, but also contribute to strengthening the forex reserves of the central bank of Pakistan. Enditem
