YANGON, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized over 41 tons of illegal timbers across the country in a week, the state-run daily Myanma Alinn reported on Wednesday.
Between March 3 and 9, the authorities confiscated over 10 tons of teak, more than 10 tons of hardwood and over 21 tons of other types of timbers, the report said.
During the operation, 10 offenders were charged, and three vehicles and machines were also seized, it added.
The country's Forest Department has been cracking down on illegal logging and trade of forest products through various measures, including a community monitoring and reporting system, the report said. Enditem
