HARARE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere said on Tuesday that the country is seeking to strengthen environmental cooperation with China.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing, Muswere said Zimbabwean Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Sithembiso Nyoni visited China last month to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector.

"The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with China on environmental policy in general, and specifically to share experiences in hosting high-level events," he said.

According to the official website of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP 15) will take place from July 23 to 31 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Muswere said the Zimbabwean government has put in place a number of measures to strengthen preparations for hosting the meeting, adding that an inter-ministerial committee has already been established to spearhead the preparations.

The government has said it will take advantage of the meeting to expand its influence and leadership on the global stage in environmental governance, stewardship, and diplomacy. Enditem
