Tajik president begins state visit to Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday for a state visit, according to the press service of the Kyrgyz president. Rahmon was met at Manas International Airport in Bishkek by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

The press service noted that during the state visit, the leaders of the two countries would discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest and prospects for further deepening bilateral cooperation. A number of bilateral documents will be signed.

On Tuesday, the head of the foreign policy department of the presidential administration of Kyrgyzstan, Muratbek Azymbakiev, stated that during Rahmon's state visit, an agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the state border is expected to be signed.

Earlier, on February 21, a final protocol on the border was signed in Bishkek, following a joint meeting of the government delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border. At that meeting, the parties initialed several projects: an agreement on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, an agreement on the construction and use of highways, arrangements for the use of highway intersections, and an agreement on ensuring access to water management and energy facilities.
