SEOUL, March 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tax revenue rose in January owing to higher corporate and income taxes, government data showed Thursday.
Tax revenue reached 46.6 trillion won (32.1 billion U.S. dollars) in January, up 700 billion won (482.4 million dollars) compared to the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The collection of both corporate and income taxes increased 700 billion won (482.4 million dollars) each, but value-added tax revenue declined 800 billion won (551.3 million dollars) in the cited month.
Aggregate revenue, including tax and non-tax revenues, totaled 66.3 trillion won (45.7 billion dollars) in January, down 900 billion won (620.2 million dollars) from a year earlier.
Total expenditure dwindled 3.2 trillion won (2.2 billion dollars) over the year to 52.7 trillion won (36.3 billion dollars) in the first month of this year.
The managed fiscal balance, excluding social security fund, recorded a deficit of 11.5 trillion won (7.9 billion dollars) in January. Enditem
