ASUNCION, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Paraguay's Cerro Porteno scored three second-half goals to advance to the Copa Libertadores group stage with a 4-2 home win over Peruvian side Melgar on Wednesday.

Sergio Araujo opened the scoring with a 12th minute strike but the hosts squandered a chance to double their lead when Cecilio Dominguez missed a penalty attempt on the half hour.

Tomas Martinez equalized from the penalty spot on the stroke of halftime following a Gaston Gimenez handball.

Cerro Porteno took control after the interval, netting three times in 24 minutes through Federico Carrizo, Francisco da Costa and Alexis Farina before Percy Liza struck a late goal that merely served as a consolation.

The result gave Cerro Porteno a 5-2 win on aggregate following the Asuncion-based club's 1-0 away victory in last week's first leg.

The group stage of South America's premier club competition will be played from April 1 to May 29. Enditem
