NIS, Serbia, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Cai Yan secured a 4-1 victory over Liudmila Vorontsova of Russia on Wednesday, advancing to the quarterfinals alongside four other Chinese boxers at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, hosted at Cair Sports Hall in Nis, Serbia.
Cai, China's national featherweight champion with two wins already under her belt in the tournament, will face Kazakhstan's Karina Ibragimova in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
In other quarterfinal matchups, Hu Meiyi will take on Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat in the light flyweight division, while Wang Xiaomeng will compete against Elizabeth Adhiambo Andiego of Kenya in the light heavyweight category. Zhan Yilian is set to face Russia's Maria Kuchmanova in the heavyweight division, and Wang Lina will meet Patricia Mbata of Nigeria in the middleweight class.
On the other hand, three Chinese boxers were eliminated in Wednesday's contests, all losing by unanimous 5-0 decisions. Zhong Xueyun was bested by Farzona Fazilova of Uzbekistan in the minimum weight division, Wei Sitong lost to Turkey's Busenaz Cakiroglu in the flyweight category, and Li Shu was defeated by Milena Matovic of Serbia in the light middleweight division.
Earlier, four other Chinese contenders - Zhou Pan (welterweight), Zhao Shuoyu (light welterweight), Li Qange (lightweight), and Zhao Xuan (bantamweight) - were eliminated in the round of 16.
A total of 12 Chinese boxers are competing in this year's IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, which runs from March 8 to 16 across 12 weight categories. Enditem
