VIENTIANE, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Laos' Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will collaborate with its partners to improve Lao cattle breeds, focusing on enhancing growth and quality to meet market demand and increase exports.

Using artificial insemination techniques, the initiative will focus on improving cattle growth, weight, meat quality, and market appeal while ensuring the cattle can adapt to Laos' environment and provide good economic returns, the ministry said on Thursday.

It will also encourage family and commercial cattle farming, including raising mother cows to produce offspring and breeding young cows for future generations.

In addition, the project aims to boost cattle exports and contribute to the growth of Laos' livestock sector.

The Lao government is targeting a 4.3 percent growth in agriculture for 2025, aiming to increase the sector's contribution to 22.4 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). Enditem
