BANGKOK, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence dropped for the first time in five months in February due to mounting concerns over political instability and trade wars, despite ongoing government stimulus measures, a survey showed on Thursday.
According to the survey of 2,240 respondents conducted by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index fell to 57.8 last month from an eight-month high of 59 in January as all components of the index decreased.
The decline came amid uncertainty about the economic situation, job opportunities, and future income stemming from domestic political instability and high cost of living, said the university's president Thanavath Phonvichai.
The government's cash handout, tax deduction, and debt relief measures helped support the sentiment, but consumers remained worried about slow economic recovery and financial institutions' strict loan approval, Thanavath told a news conference. Enditem
