MOSCOW, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Russia has expanded its entry ban on representatives of the European Union and its member states in response to the bloc's latest sanctions package, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

The expanded entry ban applies to representatives from EU government and commercial organizations, security agencies, and citizens involved in military aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, the ministry said in a statement.

The ban also targets European lawmakers, activists, and academics promoting anti-Russian policies and rhetoric, it added.

The European Council on Feb. 24 adopted the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting multiple sectors including energy, trade, transport, infrastructure, and finance. Enditem
