BISHKEK, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will sign an agreement on the state border junction point, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said during a joint statement with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov following bilateral talks in Bishkek on Thursday.

"After the signing of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border agreement today, we agreed to conclude an agreement between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan on the state border junction point," Rahmon said.

He added that this document is planned to be signed during the celebration of Nowruz in the city of Khujand, Tajikistan.

During the bilateral talks between Japarov and Rahmon, it was announced that the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will celebrate Nowruz together in Khujand. The Kyrgyz president noted the importance of the upcoming Nowruz celebration in Khujand on March 31 this year and confirmed his participation. He also expressed confidence that the joint celebration of Nowruz would become a good tradition symbolizing peace and unity among the peoples of Central Asia.

As part of the state visit of the President of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon signed an agreement between the two countries on the state border. The leaders of the states called the signing of the agreement a historic event. A total of 16 documents were signed, aimed at increasing Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation.

After the signing of the border agreement, a ceremony was held on Thursday to resume the work of two checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has been kept closed following a border conflict in May 2021. Enditem
