TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered arms and ammunition in southern Afghanistan's Uruzgan province, provincial police spokesman Bilal Uruzgani said on Friday.

The confiscated arms and ammunition, including five pieces of landmines, mortar shells, and some other military equipment, which were left over from the previous wars, have been discovered during an operation in Trinkot, provincial capital of Uruzgan, said the official.

Similarly, police discovered arms and ammunition in northern Afghanistan's Samangan province over the past week.

The Afghan interim government, which has collected thousands of arms and ammunition, including battle tanks and artillery, since assuming power in August 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside the security entities. Enditem
