VIENTIANE, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is working to restore wetland ecosystems to reduce flood risks and strengthen climate resilience through nature-based solutions.
With 6.5 million U.S. dollars in funding from New Zealand, the Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Adaptation Project will implement green infrastructure solutions to mitigate flood risks and protect vital urban wetlands in Lao capital Vientiane, aiming to enhance urban climate resilience in Laos, Lao National Radio reported on Friday.
The project will focus on integrating wetland restoration into urban planning to improve flood control, enhance biodiversity, and support local communities. It aims to promote nature-based solutions as a cost-effective approach to managing urban floods.
This initiative is expected to set a benchmark for integrating nature-based solutions into urban planning, helping cities in Laos become more resilient to climate change. Enditem
