COLOMBO, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's coconut production saw a sharp decline of 33.1 percent in December 2024 and 32.3 percent in January 2025, according to the country's central bank in its agriculture data bulletin on Friday.

Fish production also fell by 12.0 percent in December, driven by a decline in inland fishing activities, the central bank reported.

Meanwhile, tea production increased by 9.6 percent in December and 14.6 percent in January 2025. Rubber production grew by 32.4 percent in December 2024 but declined in January 2025, said the central bank.

By the fourth quarter of 2024, 25 percent of Sri Lanka's workforce was employed in the agricultural sector, according to the central bank.

Tea, rubber and coconut are the three main export crops of Sri Lanka. However, the majority of coconut is consumed domestically. Enditem
