LONDON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming 2025 London Marathon has set a new record this year, with over 840,000 people applying for the ballot and an estimated 56,000 runners expected to complete the 26.2-mile race, a spokesperson for London's business growth agency said on Thursday.

The number of finishers is set to surpass the current record of 55,646, set by the New York Marathon in November 2024. Scheduled for April 27, the race will start in Greenwich and finish at The Mall, raising tens of millions for charity.

This year's marathon will feature world record holders and Olympic champions from around the globe, including two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge, who is returning to the event for the first time since 2020.

Laura Citron OBE, CEO of London & Partners, told Xinhua, "We're excited to welcome participants and supporters from across the globe, including our friends from China, to join us on a historic day where the city's community and sporting spirit is set to shine." Enditem
