OUSTON -- Five people, including a child and an infant, were killed after 17 vehicles crashed on Thursday night in Austin, the capital city of the south central U.S. state of Texas, authorities said on Friday.

MAPUTO -- The passage of Tropical Cyclone Jude through northern Mozambique has claimed 14 lives and affected over 100,000 residents across several provinces, according to a preliminary report released Friday by the Mozambican government.
Government spokesperson Inocencio Impissa presented the report at a press conference in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, saying that the fatalities were recorded mainly in the provinces of Nampula and Niassa, resulting from collapsing walls, lightning strikes, and drowning. NAKURU, Kenya -- Fourteen people were killed when a truck rammed into a minibus early Friday in western Kenya, authorities said.
Nine men, four women and one child died in the collision that occurred at 3:00 a.m. local time on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway, police spokesman Michael Muchiri said. (Kenya-Accident)

GAZA -- Hamas said Friday it has given mediators its agreement to release Israeli-U.S. hostage Edan Alexander and the bodies of four other hostages.
In a statement, Hamas said its leadership delegation, which received a proposal from mediators on Thursday to resume negotiations, submitted its response on Friday morning. NEW DELHI -- At least three persons died and nearly 30 were trapped inside a multi-storey residential building in the Rajkot city of west Indian state of Gujarat on Friday, confirmed a local cop to Xinhua over phone.
"The fire broke out at around 10.15 a.m. on the sixth floor of the Aslantis building situated on the 150-feet Ring Road. People belonging to upper-middle and rich classes live in the building.
