NAIROBI, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenya launched three trade facilitation hubs in the northwestern region on Friday to boost regional trade.

Humphrey Wattanga, commissioner general of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), said the centers in Kainuk, Lodwar, and Kakuma towns are designed to host revenue authorities, including the rapid response unit and enforcement teams, who will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe movement of goods by providing security for trucks along the Kenya-South Sudan transport corridor.

"This is expected to curb challenges such as robberies, smuggling, and cargo dumping," Wattanga said in a statement released in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

Lilian Nyawanda, commissioner of customs and border control at the KRA, emphasized that the primary objective of the centers is to provide legitimate trade-related services to local communities, support cargo monitoring, and facilitate exports to South Sudan.

She added that these trade facilitation centers mark a significant milestone in strengthening economic ties with neighboring countries, ensuring a smooth flow of goods across borders. Enditem
