BUENOS AIRES, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Striker Milton Gimenez scored twice as Boca Juniors extended its winning streak to six games with a 4-0 home victory over Defensa y Justicia in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Sunday.

Edinson Cavani opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he tapped home from close range, and Gimenez doubled the lead just after the half hour by firing into the top-right corner after combining with Carlos Palacios.

Gimenez made it 3-0 as he received Lucas Blondel's pass before slotting a low finish past goalkeeper Enrique Bologna, and Miguel Merentiel completed the rout with a precise effort from a difficult angle nine minutes from time.

The result leaves Boca top of the 15-team Group A standings with 23 points from 10 outings, six points ahead of sixth-placed Defensa y Justicia.

The Buenos Aires side has not lost in the league since a 2-0 away defeat to Racing on February 8.

Despite Boca's impressive recent form, manager Fernando Gago said his team still had scope for improvement.

"To be champions, we have to get better," the former Real Madrid and Argentina midfielder said. "We can't afford to rest on our laurels. On the contrary, we have to make progress; we shouldn't settle for this."

Gago added: "Today the team played very well. The players understood where we needed to create superiority to attack. Overall, it was a good match. It was a bit difficult to control the game in the first half, but the team found a way in the second."

Elsewhere, Lanus cruised to a 4-1 home win over Instituto Cordoba, Racing drew 1-1 at Independiente, and Belgrano was held to a 1-1 home draw by Barracas Central. Enditem
