NEW DELHI, March 17 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) rose to 2.38 percent in February this year, data released by the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry Monday said.

"Positive rate of inflation in February 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of manufacture of food products, food articles, other manufacturing, non-food articles and manufacture of textiles, etc," reads a statement issued by the ministry.

WPI inflation rate was 2.31 percent in January and 2.57 percent (final) in December 2024.

WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to steep increases or decreases in commodity prices globally.

WPI food inflation decreased from 7.47 percent in January to 5.94 percent in February.

The food index consisting of food articles from the primary articles group and food products from the manufactured products group decreased from 191.4 in January to 189.0 in February 2025.

The index for the primary articles group decreased by 1.74 percent to 186.6 (provisional) in February from 189.9 (provisional) in January.

The index for fuel and power group increased by 2.12 percent to 153.8 (provisional) in February from 150.6 (provisional) in January.

The index for the manufactured products group increased by 0.42 percent to 143.8 (provisional) in February from 143.2 (provisional) in January. Enditem
