JERUSALEM, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Two Israeli firms have secured a contract to supply NATO's European members with a "cutting-edge" naval decoy control and launching system (DCLS), according to a statement released Monday by one of the firms.
The contract, part of a joint program between Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems and state-owned defense technology company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, will be fulfilled over four years. It involves equipping five NATO frigates with advanced electronic warfare self-protection capabilities through the integrated DCLS, Elbit said in the statement, without specifying the value of the contract.
The DCLS has combined Elbit's countermeasure dispensing system DESEAVER MK-4, which is designed to counter complex missile attack scenarios, with Rafael's high-performance passive and active decoy countermeasures, which are designed to neutralize modern anti-ship missile threats, read the statement.
According to the statement, the integrated DCLS is capable of firing various types of decoy rounds from multiple launchers to counter simultaneous threats, improving soft-kill anti-missile defense capabilities.
It features trainable and stabilized launchers that quickly and accurately deploy decoys chosen by anti-missile algorithms, supports the launch of both passive and active decoys, and is fully integrated with other ship combat systems, said the statement. Enditem
