U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.34 percent to 103.368 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0926 U.S. dollars from 1.0880 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2997 dollars from 1.2931 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 149.18 Japanese yen, higher than 148.53 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8806 Swiss francs from 0.8851 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.4283 Canadian dollars from 1.4375 Canadian dollars.
