SEOUL, March 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export logged a double-digit growth in February due to strong demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Tuesday.

Car shipment surged 17.8 percent over the year to 6.07 billion U.S. dollars in February, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The expansion was attributable to solid demand for eco-friendly sedans, the export of which advanced 17.8 percent to 2.02 billion dollars last month.

Auto parts shipment reduced 4.1 percent to 1.87 billion dollars.

The number of exported vehicles was 232,978 in February, up 17.3 percent from a year earlier.

The number of vehicles, manufactured in domestic factories, soared 17.1 percent to 351,983 in February on a yearly basis.

The number of cars sold inside the country, including locally-made and imported vehicles, was 132,855 in February, up 14.8 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
