NIAMEY, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerien government has decided to withdraw the country from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

The Nigerien government, in response to France's suspension of the country from the OIF in December 2023 following a coup in July that year, decided to "suspend all forms of cooperation with the organization." It also called on African countries to pursue "the decolonization of minds and the promotion of their own national languages," in line with the ideals of the founding fathers of Pan-Africanism.

The Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, the predecessor of Francophonie, was established on March 20, 1970 in Niamey, Niger. Enditem
