YANGON, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 3.465 tons of ICE (methamphetamine) and 200 kg of ketamine in Yangon, the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police raided a warehouse in Dagon Myothit (South) township of Yangon region on March 6 and confiscated 1.2 tons of ICE along with five suspects, the CCDAC said.
Later that evening, the police searched a vehicle in North Okkalapa township in Yangon region and seized an additional 1.265 tons of ICE and 200 kg of ketamine, along with a suspect, the report said.
Additionally, one more ton of ICE was seized in connection with the cases in the same township on the same day, it added.
Investigations revealed that the narcotics came from Shan state and were intended to be transported to Malaysian waters, the report said.
The seized narcotics are approximately worth 96.625 billion kyats (about 46 million U.S. dollars) on the black market, it said. A total of 14 suspects were arrested in connection with the cases, the report said.
The suspects have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations are ongoing, it added. Enditem
