OUAGADOUGOU, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Burkina Faso officially withdrew from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) on Feb. 28, 2025, the country's official news agency Burkina Information Agency (AIB) said on Tuesday.
According to the AIB, Burkina Faso authorities cited concerns that the organization had deviated from its original mission of promoting cultural and technical cooperation, claiming it had instead become a biased instrument of political manipulation.
With this move, Burkina Faso joined Niger and Mali, which have also withdrawn from the OIF. The three nations had previously established the Alliance of Sahel States.
The Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, the predecessor of Francophonie, was established on March 20, 1970 in Niamey, Niger. Enditem
