SINGAPORE, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Land Transport Authority has detected 488 vehicles for various offenses over the past three weeks, the authority has said.
Of those, 181 vehicles were caught for being oversized or illegally using expressways. Offenders face penalties of up to 1,000 Singapore dollars (about 750 U.S. dollars) in fines, three months' imprisonment, or both.
Additionally, 307 lorries were cited for failing to comply with safety regulations, including not filling front passenger seats in the driver's cabin, lacking proper rain covers, or missing the Maximum Passenger Capacity label.
Lorries that breach safety requirements may face fines of up to 5,000 Singapore dollars, three months' jail, or both. (1 Singapore dollar equals 0.75 U.S. dollars) Enditem
