Rubio warns of more sanctions on Venezuela amid deportation controversy

WASHINGTON, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Additional sanctions will be imposed on Venezuela unless it accepts its repatriated citizens from the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday.

Unless the Venezuelan government "accepts a consistent flow of deportation flights, without further excuses or delays, the United States will impose new, severe, and escalating sanctions," Rubio posted on the social platform X.

Meanwhile, U.S. Chief Judge of the District Court James Boasberg demanded more details from the Trump administration on Tuesday regarding two deportation flights that took off over the weekend. He had ruled against and halted the deportation of Venezuelan migrants.

The United States has been deporting immigrants, including Venezuelans. On Monday, top Venezuelan lawmaker Jorge Rodriguez denounced the U.S. deportations as barbaric and a "crime against humanity," which denied them due process. Enditem
