ISLAMABAD, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's high-level security meeting at the parliament has stressed the need for consensus and unified political commitment to curb the menace of terrorism by using full force, said a joint statement by the participants.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif read out the statement after the in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which was convened amid a surge in terrorist attacks on security personnel, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The country's top civilian and military leaderships gathered to formulate strategies against terrorism after several deadly attacks claimed the lives of both civilians and security personnel.
The meeting expressed serious concerns over the increasing misuse of social media platforms by terrorist groups to spread propaganda, recruit followers, and coordinate attacks, stressing the need for immediate measures to curb the abuse and to establish procedures to block digital networks of terrorists.
