TOKYO, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed Wednesday, as a weaker yen lifted exporters while investors acted cautiously after the Bank of Japan (BOJ) decided to keep its policy rate unchanged.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 93.54 points, or 0.25 percent, from Tuesday at 37,751.88.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 12.40 points, or 0.45 percent, higher at 2,795.96.
Stocks advanced initially on the yen's depreciation which boosted exporter-related issues. But caution prevailed before BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda's press conference after the central bank decided to refrain from further tightening of monetary policy, analysts said.
Investors also adopted a wait-and-see stance ahead of a policy decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday, while the Japanese market will be closed Thursday for a national holiday. Enditem
