JAKARTA, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government, through state-owned firm PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), has prepared 353 tanker fleets to ensure the smooth and secure transportation of fuel oil and gas during the Eid al-Fitr holiday season.

Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia, which falls on March 31, traditionally sees a surge in fuel consumption and travel.

"PIS is committed to maintaining the security of fuel and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) supplies through sustainable operations. The 353 tanker fleets operate both domestically and internationally to support seamless transportation," said Muhammad Baron, PIS corporate secretary, in a statement on Wednesday.

In addition, Baron noted that 453 tugboats will be deployed to support shipping activities and marine services at ports, managed by Pertamina Trans Kontinental.

He also said that all personnel will be on standby to carry out their duties throughout the holiday season.

According to Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation, an estimated 146.4 million people, approximately 52 percent of the country's total population, are expected to travel to their hometowns for Eid. Of these, 68.1 million travelers are projected to use private vehicles.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources predicts that daily fuel consumption during the peak holiday season will increase by 11.7 percent for subsidized RON-90 fuel (Pertalite) and 11.2 percent for unsubsidized Pertamax. Enditem
