New leadership elected in Tajikistan's lower house of parliament

DUSHANBE, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The first session of the seventh convocation of Tajikistan's lower house of parliament was held in Dushanbe on Wednesday, the national Kabar news agency reported.

During the session, President Emomali Rahmon emphasized the need to mobilize all resources for the effective implementation of the country's National Development Strategy through 2030. He also urged lawmakers to focus on digitizing their work and adopting electronic document management systems.

Elections for the lower house of parliament, as well as for regional, city, district, and village councils, took place on March 2. Voter turnout reached 85.3 percent.

The ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan secured victory, winning 51.9 percent of the votes in the nationwide district. Led by the president, the party secured 12 out of the 22 seats on party lists, and 37 seats in 41 single-mandate constituencies, according to the election commission. Enditem
