ZAGREB, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The annual Festival of Lights in Zagreb opened on Wednesday evening, drawing thousands of people to see visual installations and light art throughout the city's streets, parks and squares.

During the festival, which runs until Sunday, 25 unique light installations illuminate the capital, bringing the magic of light to visitors and symbolically marking the arrival of spring.

"This festival has become an essential event in the city's cultural and tourist calendar. Once again, Zagreb's streets, squares and facades will shine with unique light installations, bringing artistic vision, innovation and inspiration to all visitors," Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic said at the opening ceremony.

"I am particularly pleased to see how it attracts an increasing number of artists, residents and guests from all over the world each year, further cementing our city's status as a year-round destination rich in content," he added.

A special feature of this year's festival is its growing international cooperation, as 13 of the light installations are from eight countries like France, Italy, Germany and Canada, bringing international creativity to the festival, organizers said.

The Festival of Lights, which began in 2017, has become one of the most renowned events in the Croatian capital. Enditem
