VIENTIANE, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Northern Laos' Luang Prabang province is gearing up to celebrate the vibrant Lao New Year festival in 2025, with an exciting lineup of events set to take place from April 11 to 20, attracting both local and international visitors.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Governor of Luang Prabang Viengthong Hatsachanh said the Lao New Year festival in the province will be held in full swing.

The highlight of the celebrations will include the opening of a street fair, the Miss Lao New Year contest, the elephant procession, the traditional water-sprinkling of Buddha images, a grand almsgiving ceremony, and other cultural activities.

A total of 110,302 people visited Luang Prabang province during the Lao New Year festival in 2024, marking a 364.44 percent increase compared with the same period in 2023.

Luang Prabang province, some 220 km north of the Lao capital Vientiane, is one of the most well-known provinces in Laos and also a top tourist destination because of its old temples, scenic attractions and rural landscapes.

Luang Prabang was listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world heritage in 1995. Enditem
