KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Microsoft said Thursday that the global technology firm, its partners, and cloud-consuming customers are expected to generate 10.9 billion U.S. dollars in revenues for Malaysia by 2028 with its upcoming cloud region.

Microsoft said that between now and 2028, the firm, its partners, and its cloud-using customers would drive investment into the Malaysian economy and facilitate the creation of 37,575 jobs, with its upcoming hyper-scale cloud, the Malaysia West cloud region. Of these new jobs, 5,700 will be skilled in information technology.

The Malaysia West cloud region will be Microsoft's first cloud region in the country and is scheduled to go live in the second quarter of 2025.

Once operational, the Malaysia West cloud region will provide organizations across Malaysia with access to Microsoft's cloud technologies.

The cloud region will also meet local data residency requirements, ensuring that organizations can manage their data in line with government regulations.

"With the rapid pace of innovation in Malaysia, the upcoming Malaysia West cloud region is not just a technological infrastructure, it is key to power the nation's growing AI economy," said Laurence Si, managing director of Microsoft Malaysia. Enditem
