TASHKENT, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Small and medium-sized enterprises now employ 74 percent of Uzbekistan's workforce, according to a statement by the Uzbek President's press service on Wednesday.

"Over the past five years, the number of small and medium-sized enterprises has doubled. They employ 10.5 million people, accounting for 74 percent of the total working population," it said.

The statement highlighted the sector's vital role in Uzbekistan's economy, noting its contributions to job creation, investment attraction, innovation, competitiveness and export growth.

According to the statement, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with small and medium-sized business representatives on Wednesday, emphasizing that "supporting entrepreneurship is our strategic path." Enditem
