LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered and destroyed a drug lab in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, provincial police spokesman Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani said Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a place in Nawmish area on Wednesday, smashing a drug lab and confiscating materials used in manufacturing heroin, the officer said.

All the illicit drugs and objects discovered from the site were burnt on the spot, the officer added.

Police also set on fire 7.5 tons of illicit drugs in the province on Monday.

The Afghan interim government has vowed to eliminate drug menace until the country becomes a drug-free nation. Enditem
